Sound Baths
A sound bath is a deeply immersive, full-body listening experience that uses soothing sounds and vibrations to promote relaxation, stress reduction, and energetic balance. During a sound bath, participants lie comfortably on yoga mats while the instructor, Laura Collins, gently plays a variety of sacred instruments including crystal singing bowls, koshi chimes, ocean drum, and other harmonic tools.
The sound waves gently guide the mind into a meditative state of wholeness, helping to release energetic blockages, sooth the nervous system, and support emotional well-being. No prior experience is needed — simply come as you are, and let the sound wash over you. Take some time to allow your soul to find new sacred ground.
What Are the Benefits of a Sound Bath?
The harmonic tones, sounds and vibrations of a sound bath help to calm the nervous system and induce slower brain waves of alpha and theta. Music and binaural beats have long been used for healing and emotional regulation. The body of scientific research is growing specific to sound baths. Documented physical benefits listed below and many mental, emotional and spiritual benefits are experienced. Some of these are:
- Reduces heart rate & blood pressure
- Decreases cortisol levels
- Regulates inflammation & immune function
- Improve mood & elevated feelings
- Reduce anxiety, improved cognition and focus
- Enhanced sense of connection to others & emotional clarity

One hour in length and it feels like ten minutes! Wear comfortable clothing and layer if need be. Summer time (mid June through mid August) sound baths are held outside at the Yoga Deck at the YMCA EPC. Layers are important as the sun goes down. Bring some mosquito repellent as well.
